Berry Helps First Colonial Hold Onto Tie for #1

Frank Berry's two-run home run in the sixth inning erased a 5-4 Ocean Lakes lead as the No. 1 Patriots defeated Ocean lakes 7-5 to remain tied for the Beach District lead with Princess Anne. First Colonial hosts Princess Anne in Wednesday's regular-season finale.

Josh Harrell blasted a three-run home run and Michael Joseph added three hits as the seventh-ranked Nansemond River Warriors snapped a two-game losing streak and defeated Western Branch 5-2. Will Hirsch (8-1) pitched a complete game and struck out seven.

Deep Creek 11, Lakeland 1: The Hornets scored eight first-inning runs, and senior Cliff Alder went six strong innings in his first varsity start on the mound. Deep Creek trails Western Branch by a game for the final Southeastern District tournament spot. The teams meet Wednesday, and the Hornets need a victory to force a playoff.

Princess Anne 11, Tallwood 5: Zach Woods stroked two home runs and produced five RBIs for the No. 2 Cavaliers (15-4, 14-1). Ben Tomchick registered his fifth victory and Tyler Mann added a solo home run.

Kellam 11, Green Run 0: Justin Neumann hit two home runs, while Brett Curll added two hits and scored three runs for the No. 4 Knights.

Oscar Smith 3, Hickory 1: Knuckleballer Gary Williams (4-2) threw a 54-pitch gem as the Tigers upended No. 6 Hickory.

Cox 10, Bayside 3: Cody Winslow and Clint Scheuler combined for seven RBIs and four hits to lead the ninth-ranked Falcons.
