DC Girls and GB Boys Win Track Titles
Deep Creek Girls easily won the Southeastern District title for the third time in four years, scoring 196 points. Western Branch was second and Great Bridge was third. The Girls were led by strength in the sprints and the hurdles. Senior Aleathia Jenkins ran the 100 meters in her personal best 12.32 seconds to defend her title. She also placed second in the 200 and won the 400 relay. Recovering from a pulled hamstring a couple months ago, Jenkins said she was sore, but still able to push through it to win. The Hornets also dominated the hurdles as Chantal Luedeke ran the area best 14.93 to win the 100-hurdles and Krystal Matthews won the 300 Hurdles.
For the defending state champion Wildcats, the boys were very impressive as Senior Mike Morrison won the 300 hurdles and pole vault, and scored in the discus and triple jump. Jon Lockhart won the discus with a throw of 170' 11 1/2" and Ryan Sykes won the 800 meter with Chris Kust winning the 3200.
