Bryan and Mitchell Seal Victory for Princess Anne
Princess Anne (19-5) wins the Eastern Region quarter-final, handing Gloucester, the Peninsula District champions their first loss, 7-2, ending the Dukes’ season after 22 straight wins. Princess Anne will play Great Bridge today in the semi-finals. Previously unbeaten Stephanie Coates and her Gloucester teammates were shocked at the outcome, but according to Kristie Shiflett, who will play at the College of Charleston in South Carolina next season, "The saying around here is that a lot of teams go undefeated until they come to the Beach.’’

Hickory defeated Granby 8-0 as Katie Raulerson (10-2) and Christina Boyd combined on a four-hitter. Nichole Simmons and Rachel West accounted for three Hickory hits apiece. Alison Motley drove in three runs. The Hawks face Kempsville in today’s 5 p.m. semifinal.
Defending state champion Kempsville ruined the first appearance at the Eastern Region tournament for Menchville, defeating them 12-1. The Chiefs (17-5), who played without three starters, dominated with a seven-run second inning. Becky Pfeil and Kyrus Whitehurst contributed two RBIs each.
Great Bridge 3, Lake Taylor 0: The Wildcats (16-3) advanced on the strength of Chelsea Henline’s two-hitter. Jewel White and Kristy White led the offense with three hits each.
