Robinson defeats Herndon in baseball, 5-1

The Herndon Hornets faced the daunting task of travelling to Fairfax for a late-afternoon showdown with the mighty Robinson Rams on Wednesday, but fell short by a score of 5-1. The Hornets kept it close until late, but the Rams broke it up in the bottom of the sixth.

Hornets senior Jason Tate started the game and pitched strong until the sixth inning. He gave up 5 earned runs over 5 1/3 innings, while surrendering 7 hits, 3 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Junior Ben Calacci relieved Tate in the 6th inning and held the Rams hitless through the final 1 1/3 inning. The Hornets were limited to only 2 hits throughout the entire game. The only offense was provided by seniors Daniel Lombardozzi and Eli Mckinney, who had a double and a single respectively.
