Princess Anne suffers first loss at Beach Blast
The match-up between the two nationally ranked teams - Mills Godwin is 38th according to Baseball America, Princess Anne 45th - highlighted the first day of the Beach Blast, a 19-team event at six Virginia Beach sites through Wednesday.
Mills Godwin scored the first eight runs of the game during an 8-3 victory over the Cavaliers on Monday in a Beach Blast opener at Ocean Lakes High School.
Princess Anne, the top-ranked team in South Hampton Roads and the defending Group AAA state champion, was unbeated in their first 7 games of the season.
Eric Fornataro's three-run home run highlighted the Eagles' first inning against Princess Anne starter Ben Tomchick, who surrendered just one hit during the ensuing four innings
Leading 4-0, the Eagles scored four runs in the sixth inning off of two Cavalier errors and Rhys Steinhorst's two-run triple. Jake McAloose homered in Princess Anne's three-run sixth inning.
