Potomac Falls Hires Woodlief As Football Coach

(POTOMAC FALLS, VA)
For Immediate Release
The lengthy process of waiting for a new coach at Potomac Falls High School came to end on Tuesday night as the Loudoun County Public School Board approved the hiring of former Gloucester Head Football Coach and Apprentice School offensive line coach Scott Woodlief. Woodlief becomes the third head coach at Potomac Falls since the school’s brief history. Woodlief takes over a football program in desperate need of a leader. With less than 4 months until the football season begins, Woodlief will need to circle the wagons and get the 2006 Panthers ready to pursue a Dulles District Championship.
The process that eventually led to Woodlief’s hiring was cumbersome, but Potomac Falls Athletic Director Mike Sipe believes he has found the right man.
“We did a thorough search to find the best guy to come in here and help our football program. We are very pleased with our selection and we think Coach Woodlief will help our football team win a lot of games during his time here,” Sipe said.
Woodlief comes from the division 3 collegiate level where he was the offensive line coach at the Apprentice School from 2002 to 2005. Woodlief is a former Apprentice School football player, and still holds several passing records for the school. Woodlief was a division 3 All American in 1985 as a wide receiver, and in 1986, he switched to the quarterback position and was voted the team MVP during that season.
Woodlief has been a successful head football coach at the high school level as well. From 2000 to 2002, he coached at Gloucester High School in the Norfolk, Virginia area. In 2000, Woodlief was voted the Division 6 coach of the year in the Peninsula District. From 1993 to 1999, Woodlief was the offensive coordinator at Kecoughtan high school.
Woodlief’s playing and coaching experience on the offensive side of the ball should help the Panthers put more points on the scoreboard in future seasons. Potomac Falls has a solid group of talented players returning in 2006, and it will be interesting to see which style of offense Woodlief will choose to play. Woodlief has run the Pro-Style offense in his previous years in coaching, but all indications are he will wait to evaluate the talent before deciding on which offensive system he will run next year.
Woodlief will become the second new coach to enter the Dulles District next fall after Broad Run hired Michael Burnett to replace former coach Ken Belchik. Potomac Falls finished a game out of first place behind Park View and Heritage last year in the Dulles District.
Potomac Falls will have a players meeting on Friday April 28th to be introduced to their new head coach. Woodlief will immediately start organizing football related operations and training for the Panthers later this week.
