Potomac Falls beats County 12-9 in Girls LAX

The Raiders lost to Potomac Falls 12-9 in a tough contest Tuesday night. County trailed by six in the first half (8-2), but not for lack of effort. The team had 11 shots on goal, with Allie Mercer and Becky Hazlett scoring one goal each.

The Raiders came together in the second half to play a solid offensive game and get 7 shots on the board. Genevieve LeFranc scored the first goal to get the streak started. Brooke Hewartson contributed one goal and one interception. Allie Mercer scored 2 goals in the 2nd half, Becky Hazlett added one, and Molly Griffin scored 2 on free positions in the final four minutes of the game.

County did a great job on defensive rides and held ball possession for more than three-quarters of the second half of the game. Kaitlin Ireland had 4 ground ball pickups and one interception; Katie Martin had 3 interceptions and won four draws. Kate Glennon won two draws.

Molly Griffin earned the game ball for always being one step ahead to her mark on offense and for scoring twice on free positions against a tough Potomac Falls goalie.

County goalie Lauren Corcoran had 8 saves; Potomac Falls goalie Katie Campbell had 24 saves for the night.
