Landstown Football Searching for a Coach Again
Dave Hudak informed Landstown officials and several members of the football team on Friday that he had changed his mind and wouldn't be coaching at Landstown this season. He has returned to his position at Granby where he has coached for more than 20 years.
A remorseful Hudak said, "I made a mistake. I was trying to make a decision based on my family, and about being closer to home and having more time to spend with them." Realizing that the long hours required of coaching would not enable him more time with his family, he decided it was best for him to remain at Granby. He may leave coaching in a couple years and did not want to start something he couldn't finish at Landstown.
"It wouldn't have been fair, that's how I felt," said Hudak, 48. "I still want to coach but I just couldn't see myself putting in the years of commitment and starting at a new school, as opposed to finishing where my history is and where I've built a program."
Hudak repeatedly said that his decision to return to his former school had nothing to do with Landstown but everything to do with Granby. "Landstown has a great program with great kids" Hudak said.
With the off season football training program in full swing and the Beach Combine coming up next week, this puts Landstown back at square one.
