Jenkins signs with Nittany Lions to wrestle
Former Cox High School wrestling star Bubba Jenkins signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to attend Penn State, a great turnaround from the controversy that followed him just a few months ago. Jenkins an exceptional athlete and student was removed from Cox in February and prohibited from wrestling in the AAA state tournament for an incident that occurred off school property, by the school's Principal. Jenkins was allowed to transfer however to First Colonial High School.
Jenkins competed in the NHSCA Nationals Championship at 145 pounds last month where he dominated the Senior Nationals field. Although several colleges cooled their recruiting of Jenkins after the incident at Cox before hearing the facts, Penn State looked at the circumstances surrounding the incident and remained loyal to him which ultimately led to his decision.
"Every school that I ever wanted to call me, called me," said Jenkins. Jenkins said the Lions remained loyal to him which made the decision much easier. Wrestling powers Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Lehigh continued their recruting efforts after the results of the tournament, but Jenkins had already commited to Penn State.
Jenkins looks forward to next season with the Lions, who finished ninth at the NCAA Tournament this year.
