PFHS Girls Soccer Spotlight Q&A: Breanne Brady
How long have you been playing soccer?
I have been playing soccer since I was five. I have also played club soccer since fourth grade. I play for Washington Area Girls Soccer.
How many years have you been on the varsity team?
This year will be my fourth on the varsity team. I was surprised that I made the team my freshman year, and at the same time I was really excited.
What do you like about your team?
The thing that I like most about our team is how hard we work. Also, we always push each other and encourage one another to give 100% into every game. At the same time, there is room for improvement. We are working to build our confidence on the field and are working to come together as a team.
What was it like winning states in 2004 and what pushed the team to do it?
We played every game for Nicole Megaloudis, who played soccer at PFHS and died in a car accident in 2004. That was the most of the driving force behind us. When we won, I couldn’t believe it had happened, but on the other hand we had worked so hard to do it, and it seemed so well deserved.
What do you like about the sport?
I like that it is a team sport, I like that I have gained so many friendships from playing soccer throughout the years.
What are your expectations for the outcome of the season?
I think that this year is going to be a lot tougher and we’re going to have to work a lot harder. We have just a good chance as any other team out there to succeed, and we don’t mind working hard to achieve that goal.
What position do you play?
I have played outside mid, but this year I play center mid.
How has this season been different compared to last year for you personally?
This year, I have had to step up as a leader on the team and in the past it has been other people that have taken control.
Where are you going to college and what are you going to major in?
I will be attending VCU in the fall and I am planning to major in art education.
Why do you want to major in art education?
Art is something I have always been passionate about and it is something that I want to do for the rest of my life.
Do you have any siblings? Do they play soccer?
I have three younger sisters and they all play soccer. Shannon is a freshman at Potomac Falls and plays on JV, Kayley is in sixth grade, and Shea is in kindergarten.
What other activities are you involved in besides soccer?
I am student body vice president, I am a member of varsity club, National Art Honors Society, and I have done cross country in the fall every year since my freshman year.
What is more demanding, soccer or cross country?
I think that cross country is more demanding physically, and because it is more of an individual competition. I enjoy soccer a whole lot more, though.
How do you stay in shape in the off season?
I do cross-country in the summer and fall and I play indoor soccer with my team throughout the winter.
How did your team finish last year?
We probably did not finish on the best note because we lost in the first round of states, but we were really proud that we had made it that far and still did pretty good.
How do you feel about being a captain?
I feel that is a big responsibility because it makes your teammates look up to you and I feel that it is a big role to live up to. I want to be the kind of captain that the girls in the past have been.
